You don’t usually see an F1 driver punished for somebody crashing behind them with none contact – however Fernando Alonso’s driving within the Australian Grand Prix was penalised for precisely that.
Alonso was given a 20-second time penalty for the “uncommon manoeuvre” that contributed to George Russell’s dramatic final lap accident in Melbourne.
What initially regarded like Russell shunting on his personal in Alonso’s soiled air rapidly morphed into one thing extra, because it turned clear that Alonso had at the least lifted off the throttle on his method into the nook.
