Fisker Inc. is on the verge of creating a masterpiece, all involving a vehicle that was known as Project Ronin. Ronin, being a wandering Samurai from feudal Japan with no lord or master, is a perfect name for this car today. For a Samurai, the premodern warriors of Japan, were meant “to serve.” This is exactly what Fisker Inc. intends to do, not only by making unique electric vehicles to carry us into the automotive future, but by eventually creating a 100 percent climate-neutral vehicle. In terms of the Ronin, it’s hailed as the world’s first all-electric four-door convertible GT sports car, something that is “built for a category of one.” Reportedly, the car’s name alludes to the John Frankenheimer film, also called Ronin. The film features epic car chases, and is itself an art form.
The Ronin Design Origins And Esthetics
Of course, GT in this sense denotes a high-performance vehicle, a grand touring car. This is usually a coupe, seating two to four, and designed for high speed comfort. To know anything about Fisker’s Chairman and CEO, co-founder Henrik Fisker, is to know that this isn’t his first rodeo. Fisker Inc. is actually his second automotive company, but before that, he was known for designing the limited BMW Z8 of James Bond movie fame, as the President and CEO of BMW Designworks U.S. He also is credited with bringing Aston Martin back from the brink, as a former board member and design director, resulting in the DB9/V8 Vantage becoming the most-sold Aston Martin ever. Take a look at the upcoming Aston Martin DB12 and note the stunning beauty of its construct, surely a hallmark of the brand, but one that Mr. Fisker took to new heights. The DB12 is called the world’s first super tourer, as Aston Martin’s latest flagship GT.
Aesthetically then, the Fisker Ronin is quite pleasing, as well as simultaneously being a super GT. Given Mr. Fisker’s roots within BMW and Aston Martin, perhaps this is unsurprising. It may take a bit of historical knowledge to understand why, but all it takes is a few looks, for one to be convinced that the Ronin body of work is pure art.
Fisker Ronin: Art Characteristics Beyond Looks
The Fisker Ronin will be technologically advanced, as it features a 17.1-inch touchscreen. It employs a unique aluminum space frame, with integrated battery cells. The vehicle rides on lightweight, carbon-fiber 23-inch wheels, and the folding hardtop is also carbon-fiber! The interior has luxury that utilizes recycled materials, with the goal in mind of making Ronin the world’s most sustainable supercar. Perhaps then Mr. Fisker said it best:
The Fisker Ronin is for people who love to drive, but who are also thrilled by automotive art and design and demand that their high-performance vehicles embrace a sustainable future…Our goal was to create a classic grand touring car, updated for the 21st century…
After all, what is great art, if not sustainable and long-lasting? Does a classic piece still not speak to us today? In addition to this, the Ronin has rear butterfly doors, but only a single door handle is necessary. This is because the doors open automatically by swiping the handle. The handle then extends when the rear doors are ready to be opened. All doors may be opened remotely with a smartphone. The hardtop will also be smartphone activated, and will automatically retract into the trunk, creating some more cargo space. Additional cargo space is available in the front trunk, or frunk. The Ronin is designed to carry five passengers, a luxury indeed in the realm of the supercar.
Ronin: One Of Performance
Of course for the Fisker Ronin to be all what it is claimed as, it must show performance specifications that rival its appearance. In order to leave behind the competition in its wake, this vehicle sports some serious numbers. There aren’t that many cars as capable of what the Ronin is said to be, which is enough to provide an audience the thrills of any great theater.

Fisker’s aspiration here is to bring superior utility to the high end of the market, in which many automakers have done in the realm of SUVs, where Fisker now offers its very own Ocean SUV. In further response to this trend, the Ronin was also made to take advantage of its layout, and provide unusual cargo space. At the same time, it will be able to meet with or exceed any supercar currently available in the market, while providing exceptional range. Given the claimed specs above, this is certainly true for the most part. There will always be a faster, bigger, lighter, or more expensive car, but if this warrior is truly to be in a category all of its own, this type of blend in performance and serviceability gives it a fighting chance.
How Much Is The Ronin In The Window?
We know that the Ronin will come with a steep price tag of $385,000, as if any other lower number was to be expected, certainly nothing under six-figures. If one wants a classic piece of the performing arts, be ready to pull out the checkbook, much less wallet. Early customers could place a deposit of $2,000, for the first reservation, as of August 3rd. After that, a fully refundable second reservation of $1,000. Like any great artwork, this one comes limited, to only 999 examples. With targeted deliveries to start the second half of 2025, here’s a summary of what customers will anticipate:
- An integrated battery pack with an estimated 600-mile range
- A Super GT convertible expected to produce over 1,000 horsepower
- A vehicle that will seat five and function as a sports sedan with the hardtop raised
- Just 999 vehicles, priced at $385,000 each
- Production starts in the second half of 2025
No doubt what was a project concept vehicle is finally coming to production in the foreseeable future. Fisker Inc. is a relatively new start up, with only a few vehicles to its credit. Before the Ocean SUV, there was the Fisker Karma, a vehicle that predates Fisker Inc.’s establishment in 2016. Today, while the Ocean SUV tides are beginning to take form, the PEAR is on its way. An acronym meaning Personal Electric Automotive Evolution, the PEAR is a crossover. Also on the horizon is the all-electric four-door pickup in the Alaska. Joining the fray of course is the one and only Ronin Super GT convertible, an EV like all the rest. Indeed, Fisker will produce an EV for every clime and place, with an SUV, crossover, truck, and supercar all in its portfolio, but no more and no less (at least for now). It’s the old adage of quality over quantity, yet every offering has its own primary purpose.
It’s not uncommon for an artist to produce many works, nor for artwork itself to be vast in general production. Anyone can make art, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, how many pieces of art are truly revered? How much art is cherished and limited, but then still reproduced or replicated? Vehicles then can all be a work of art, but despite the number of copies and variances, there will always be a select number that stand out. Among these only exist the most creative, those that speak to us the most, and hold our senses for generations. Time will be the ultimate test, but at initial glance, the Fisker Ronin appears to be a lasting automotive stroke of genius.
