The mid-sized SUV segment is chockablock with choice for consumers seeking a family-oriented three-row ride. Not getting much respect by those who create “Best of” lists is the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, which is kind of a disservice to the model. Around since 2008, looking rather minivan-ish, the second-generation version — debuting in 2018 and taking on a bulkier, more truck-like appearance — has gone about its business with little fanfare. It received a freshening last year, primarily the front fascia, with no changes for 2023 other than the once-available front-wheel drivetrain has been dropped for the Canadian market.
Sure, it’s a mature vehicle, with a new, third-generation, 2024 model arriving early next year. Yet the current, 5.2-metre-long Traverse (which borders on full-size, despite Chevy’s contention it’s not) is exceedingly competent, if lacking some of the latest and greatest features found in its rivals.
