It’s been a long time since Indian car brand Mahindra launched an all-new model in Australia, but the 2023 Mahindra Scorpio is finally here. It’s an adventure-focused ‘large’ SUV that’s zeroing in on the new Ford Everest, updated Isuzu MU-X and soon-to-be-replaced Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
So that it can be taken seriously, the six-seat Scorpio has a tough body-on-frame, ladder-frame chassis and a versatile four-wheel-drive (4WD) system that should imbue it with genuine off-road chops. And these off-road credentials are helped by its 129kW/400Nm turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.
But as CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton finds out in this expert review, the Scorpion 4×4 is missing one key safety feature that you’d expect to be in any all-new model launched in Australia in 2023. And its absence could be a dealbreaker for some buyers.
