Now we know in recent years the Prius has had the tag of being a bit of a lame car. However, we think the new Prius is absolutely gorgeous, and may now be considered as one of Toyota’s coolest cars!

But what’s so great about it? Well, let’s take a closer look. Starting with the design, we are getting some serious Lamborghini vibes from the back! With the swooping headline and the glass area around the taillights, we are getting some serious sports car vibes! Along the side you have smart integrated door handles for the back seats, and then up at the front you’ve got the daytime running lights and headlights combined into a cool design. All-in-all, this looks totally different to any Prius we’ve seen before… And that’s a good thing!

Step inside, and the cool design themes continue! There’s a small digital dial screen for the driver and a large infotainment screen in the centre of the dashboard. Thankfully it also comes with a number of physical buttons, so climate control can also be managed through these rather than through the screen. You’ll also find a good bit of storage throughout the cabin, although we also encountered some scratchy plastics. But then again, what would you expect when the car cost from just over $27,000.

When it comes to performance, there’s only one engine choice available. It’s a 2-litre naturally-aspirated 4 cylinder, coupled with an electric motor. In the entry-level car this drivers the front-wheels only and provides 197hp. It is possible to get an all-wheel drive edition, but the horsepower is almost identical, increasing to just 199hp! There’s also a plug-in hybrid variant available, which can produce 223hp while also driving for up to 40 miles on electric power alone.

Sadly though, even though the new Prius looks great, it won’t be coming to the UK. But the question is, do you agree with Mat – has Toyota finally made the Prius cool?! Let us know in the comments!
