Toyota GR86 is the successor to the GT86. If it weren’t for the changes under the bonnet I’d believe Toyota had given the GT86 model another facelift. The exterior dimensions are almost identical. The biggest difference – 26 mm – is in the height. The GR86 is 1310 mm high. And that’s probably mainly because of the shark fin antenna. There are new headlights and rear lamps, and this forces redesign of bumpers, radiator grille and other small details. Also GT changed into GR. The 2012 Toyota GT86 was a reference to the 2000GT and AE86 models. Toyota GR86 is a reference to Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s motorsport division. With that said, Toyota boasts that these bumper changes are part of Gazoo Racing’s input in optimizing the car’s aerodynamic performance.
